Wearing redthe color of life and lovecan do more than help you stop traffic. It could help save lives.

As part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement, millions of women are wearing this joyful color to celebrate their commitment to keeping their hearts healthy.

The movement has helped revive interest in making the color red even more fashionable. Wearing this vibrant color offers women a chance to stand out and make a statement.

“Color is an easy and affordable way to express yourself through what you wear,” says style and beauty expert Andy Paige. “Red is an empowering color. Once you feel the lift this color gives your spirits and see the attention it attracts, you may decide to make it a mainstay of your wardrobe all year.”

According to Paige, there are as many ways to wear red as there are good reasons to do it.

Go Red from head to toe or accent an outfit with red accessories. Carry a fabulous red handbag or kick up your heels in red stilettos. Red isn’t just for women, either men can Go Red by wearing a red shirt, tie or socks.

    Try these tips from Paige

Pick the perfect red. If your coloring is warm, try a rich tomato or pomegranate. If it’s cool, think cherry or scarlet.

Worried about looking washed out? Fill in the neckline of a red blouse or sweater with a scarf in a softer shade or wear red away from your facein a skirt, pants or boots.

Put a new spin on it. Wear red accessories, like the ones at ShopGoRed.com, in offbeat ways. Substitute two tiny reddress pins (the Go Red For Women symbol) for cufflinks on a Frenchcuffed shirt tie a reddress logo scarf around your wrist or use it as a watchband.

Don’t forget your lips, tips and locks. Glossy red lipstick and nail polish are classic ways to add a touch of glamour. Take it a step further and color your hair redany shade from strawberry blonde to burgundy will do.

Be Bold, Be Noticed and Be Heart Healthy

Regardless of the shade or the accessory you choose, wearing red can also be a fashion statement that says, “I am taking a stand for my heart health.”

Paige advises, “Incorporating red into your wardrobe serves as a visual reminder to love your heart and Go Red in your own fashion.”

Greetings! I have been preaching my wealth creation principles for many years now from the “pulpit” of the Internet and consider it a high honor that I have been able to assist so many of you to commence upon this exciting path of wealth creation, freedom and abundance.

Please accept this one fact a fact that I am totally and utterly certain of becoming a millionaire via my wealth creation principles is within the easy grasp of just about everyone one in the western world. So if you are not “making it” right now that is what you have been doing up till now has not financially worked for you, why dont you embrace my teachings until my “knowledge” becomes your “knowing”. Remember, a guru or a teacher is only ever the bridge to your inner knowing. Once you have crossed the bridge to your destination the bridge fades into the illusory past and becomes obsolete.

Those of you who have read my other articles (or my book), know that I am not about advising you to borrow money, use existing funds or income, speculating, investing or even “making money”. I teach the direct route of Wealth Creation. That is, a millionaire is a person whose net assets in a non fire sale situation, if sold, would bring a price in excess of a net million dollars.

So if you want to become a millionaire fast we ask the simple question, what is a quick and easy, sure way of increasing your net assets by 1,000,000.00? Now most of you have jobs and families to support, so to avoid burn out, you will need to create this million dollars in assets, not only part time, but also in an enjoyable and relaxing way.

When I was a ten year old in the late fifties, I lived in basically what was a satellite English migrant city in Australia. Almost all families were struggling and times were hard. I recall my father scolding me harshly when he found out that I had wasted my money on buying a few comic books. (I particularly liked “The Phantom”).

One morning, in my school holidays I placed my collection of about a dozen comics in an old wooden gocart and went doortodoor offering to swap my meager supply of comics three for two. Within a few streets my poor old gocart couldnt cope with the weight, so I also starting offering to sell my treasures at about a third of retail price. A few hours later, I found I no longer needed to go door to door all the kids and often their parents came to me in the street. My pile of notes and coins was now piling up as fast as my pile of comics. I leant a lot that first day.

The next morning I was more prepared. I enlisted the help of two schoolmates. We took it in turns to push a large old Victorian pram and added a blanket upon which to lay out all the comics. We had crude signs stuck on the side of the pram and an old strapless handbag for the money. Needless to say we made a killing! The bush telegraph system worked and wherever we went we were swamped with eager customers. In todays values I probably was creating several hundred dollars a day a fortune for a ten year old, yet never dared tell my father that those same comic books were now creating more money than he was currently earning.

When the marble craze hit our school, guess who used the same principles? (But “my head master sanctioned school casino with marbles as chips” is another story.)

I later called this system the “arbitragecompound system of wealth creating” and have used it to this day. Assets, even at a 50 mark up as in the above example, grow to staggering totals if left to multiply unhindered. That is why casinos just love punters who use the many variations of the “double up system”. Like the casino barons, the wealth creator uses these principles to his or her own “wealth” advantage.

Now you can start your wealth program with any commodity, however, like a 10 year old lad with his comic books, if you are passionate andor have a wider than average knowledge about a certain subject then trust me when I say, you already have the ability to fast track your millionaire status.

In my book and other articles, I have used numerous examples of real cases of people just like you who have used their hobby to become wealthy in their spare time.

A recent example, Paul, one of my early readers, shared with me that his passion and hobby was of all things “sea shells”. Needless to say, his knowledge on the subject compared to mine, seemed immense. He explained that over the Internet and via magazines, collectors communicate with each other and swap and buy and sell thousands of different types of shells.

Many bring a 1,000.00 plus! Just like I had never considered investing in seashells, Paul had never considered, until he had read my writings, that his hobby and passion could make him super rich. Paul visited me a couple of weeks ago and excitedly told me that the day previous, he picked up in a second hand shop 5 small shells, all of the same species for only 100.00. The dealer grinned like a Cheshire cat at the victory of selling some schmuck 5 worthless shells for a hundred bucks.

Paul had a ready market for those rarer shells at a thousand dollars each! Now please see the difference. The dealer, from his 100 has to pay his overheads. Paul will use the 5,000 to purchase up to 15,000.00 worth of shells. Pauls wealth total will accelerate an extra 14,900.00 in one buysellbuy cycle. The dealers 100 became lost in the overheads quagmire.

Another example An acquaintance of mine began his dinky toy car collection as a boy. His collection “Wealth Total” is also now valued well over a million dollars. Get the picture?

Other readers have successfully used for their wealth program to riches, hobbies involving paintings, jewelry, coins, stamp collecting, gold nuggets, old electric guitars, old bikes, china, postcards, teddy bears, model railroads, signatures, sporting souvenirs old share certificates in fact virtually any hobby can be used to kick start your wealth program.

You see with your hobby you already have the knowledge base and the passion couple this with a wealth program and your future becomes excitingly assured.

In these series of articles and in my book I have laid out an easy, well proved and virtually failure proof plan for you to become a millionaire. Yet I can only sow the seeds. The watering and the caring needs to come from within you.

And remember, it starts with a decision!

While there has been many jokes surrounding female drivers, research has shown that less females than males make a claim on their car insurance. As a result of this many specialist insurers are now offering cheaper car insurance and good deals especially aimed at women by way of female car insurance.

There are many advantages to taking out female car insurance along with getting some of the cheapest policies available. Deals with women in mind usually consist of handbag insurance and some form of breakdown covered being added in with the insurance which of course are big bonuses for peace of mind, security and safety. When it comes to female car insurance the main choices for car insurance are fully comprehensive, third party fire and theft and third party only.

Fully comprehensive insurance is of course the most cover you can take out and covers against any repairs to your car and any other if you are the cause of an accident, it also covers against fire and theft and some include liability insurance to an extent. This type of cover as you would expect is the dearest type of insurance, but if you have a brand new car or your car is over a certain amount then it might be the only insurance option available.

Third party fire and theft is cheaper but doesnt give you as much cover, it will safeguard against damage to your car by fire and of course if it should get stolen and will also payout for damage caused to another vehicle in an accident but not to repair your own. Third party only is the cheapest cover available but only covers against damage to the other car or a third party in case of an accident.

There are many insurers that specialise in female car insurance and by using a specialist car insurance broker, you can get several quotes for car insurance particularly aimed at the women which have not only the cheapest premiums but also added extras and bonuses which benefit women drivers.

You have just arrived in the Renaissance capital of the art world with a couple of days to spare, so where do you go and what highlights can you see in such a short time? This is the guide for you to get the maximum out of a short stay in Florence.

    1400
Now is probably a good time to familiarise yourself with the central city, if its late summer it will be beginning to cool down and hopefully the crush of the tourist crowds will be starting to diminish. The centre of Florence is easy to walk around as the streets are narrow and most are closed to traffic.

Starting off around the main station there is the Piazza Santa Maria Novella with the church that gives the train station its name. Opposite the church there is the Piazza Nazionale and a road which leads down to the Piazza del Mercato Centrale. Here there are a few market stalls selling leather goods, souvenirs and other items. The 2 famous buildings to see here are the Cappelle Medici and the San Lorenzo e Biblioteca Laurenziana.

    1500
You will see the Duomo before you reach the piazza it resides in as you walk down Via Borgo San Lorenzo. The squat building in front of the cathedral is the Baptistery, built on the foundations of a Roman temple. The golden doors facing the cathedral are replicas of an original set made by Lorenzo Ghiberti and regarded by Michelangelo as the doors to paradise. But the sight most visitors are bowled over by is Brunelleschis dome, the cap on the already impressive Chiesa Santa Maria del Fiori. Standing guard beside it is the campanile, or bell tower built by Giotto.

The view from the top of the Duomo is incredible on a clear day and well worth the trek to the top. Entry to the church itself is free but there is a charge to make the climb. You can also climb the bell tower but run the risk of the bells going off at some point and there is no lift if you need assistance to get back down.

    1600
Many of the original works that were used to decorate the exteriors and interiors of the baptistery, church and campanile are house inside the Museo dellOpera del Duomo, behind the cathedral, the museum rooms that catalogue the history of the buildings. There are many pieces by Michelangelo, including his Pieta that he partially destroyed, which was finished later by a student. The original baptistery doors are housed here along with Duomo plans from Brunelleschi, statues and bas reliefs by Donatello and others.

    1700
Walking down Via Roma you will reach Piazza della Repubblica, the edges are taken up with expensive hotels and even more expensive cafes. There are some stalls selling various touristy type things, including more belts, wallets and handbags. Keep walking down Via Calimara until you reach the loggia that houses more market stalls. Here you can test your skills at spotting a fake leather item although you dont want to make this too obvious. Better still you can drop a coin from the mouth of il Porcolino, the bronze statue of a boar, and make a wish.

    1730
Looking straight ahead you will see what resembles a crowded street rising up at the end of Via Porta Santa Maria. This is actually a bridge, the Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge, which was the only one spared by the Nazis in WWII. The original shops were butchers, dropping their leftovers into the Arno below. The stench got up the Medicis noses in the 16thC so much that Grand Duke Ferdinando I ordered them to move out and the more aesthetically pleasing goldsmiths to move in. This is also one of 3 bridges in the world to house shops.

    1800
Make your way back to the northern end of the bridge where there is a covered colonnade heading left alongside the river. This was built as a secret passageway for the Medicis as they walked above the populace between the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace. At the far end of the walkway you can look back to see the rear of the shops as they overhang the river below.

Behind you is also the entrance to the Piazza Degli Uffizi, a three sided piazza filled with statues and busts of famous artists from over the centuries, and of course home to the world famous Uffizi Gallery. The collection inside is second only to that of the one held at the Vatican in terms of artistic significance. Giotto, Fra Angelico, Lippi, Botticelli, Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo the list goes on. The gallery is closed on Mondays and needs at least half a day to get around, as well as to be booked in advance if you wish to view it in summer. The piazza is commonly filled during the summer with outdoor exhibitions, street artists and performers, mainly to entertain the long meandering line of tourists queuing up to get in.

Carry on through the narrow piazza away from the river until you reach Piazza Signoria. This wide open space is most recognisable by the statue of David, a copy put there in 1873 as the original had to moved inside the Accademia to protect it from the elements. Underneath the loggia is a collection of other famous statues including The Rape of the Sabines, Hercules and the Centaur Nessus, by Giambologna and Cellinis bronze statue of Perseus.

The main space is overlooked by the rather imposing statue of Il Nettuno, the watery figure of Neptune standing at the opposite end of Palazzo Vecchio. Close by is the mounted figure of Cosimo I Medici and the bronze plaque that marks the spot where the priest Savonarola was hanged and burned for heresy in 1498. For the super sleuths there is a another sculpture to look out for. On the wall of the Palazzo Vecchio is the carved outline of a mans face. One legend tells that Michelangelo, in a fit of pique, was proving to Donatello he was able to sculpt great works of art, even with his hands behind his back.

    1830
Inside Palazzo Vecchio the entrance shows ornate ceilings and wall decoration for this building was once the seat of Florentine government during the 13th and 14th Centuries. For a fee you can view the opulent apartments upstairs that were occupied by Medicis and other notables as well as reach the battlements for another view out over the city.

The remainder of the evening can be best spent wandering the narrow streets and enjoying a meal from one of the many restaurants and trattorias. Later on there is the night life as many bars and clubs open up after 10pm and carry on until very early in the morning.

    0800
Florence is a tourist magnet all year round so an early start is essential if you dont wish to spend countless hours queuing. A surefire way to avoid this is to part with a little extra cash in the busy summer months and pre book your tickets online or over the phone. You then pick them up at a designated time from the ticket office with your booking number. This way you can easily get to see the Uffizi and possibly another museum in the same day. To do this simply log onto www.firenzemusei.it or www.weekendafirenze.com or book through your hotel.

The Uffizi opens at 8.15am, closing at 7pm, with the artworks divided between a series of rooms all featuring a certain artistic style or period. The gallery is not restricted to just greats of the Italian renaissance but the collection also includes works by German and Flemish artists. To appreciate much of the work you would need to devote at least several hours to get round.

    1500
Either as an afternoon escape or a morning alternative there is also the Galleria DellAccademia, most famous for its prize possession, Michelangelos David, the original sculpture that stood in Piazza della Signoria. The 5m tall statue was carved from a single slab of marble which some tales relate as having a fault line running through it. Michelangelo was said to have found it at abandoned at the rear of the artisan school and decided he would use it to create a symbol of Florentine spirit.

The Accademia also has other well known statues, paintings and carvings by many artists on display, well worth an hour or two looking around.

For a plesant way to round off the day there is a walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo from the southern river bank, where you will find yet another copy of Michelangelos David, a bronze version overlooking the city. A great place to watch the city change colour at sunset and sometimes there are public events held in the piazza during the summer.

    1700
If there is still enough energy left to view one more church Chiesa di San Miniato al Monte is worth the extra effort. Situated in the parklands up behind Piazzale Michelangelo the exterior is one of the best examples of Tuscan Romanesque architecture while the interior is home to some extraordinary 1315th C frescoes.

    0800
Depending on your time table you may have time for another set of museums or just a gentle stroll in the park. Head up to the Pitti Palace, another Brunelleschi creation for a wealthy banker that was eventually taken up by the Medici family. Inside are a series of museum rooms all dedicated to various items such silver, porcelain and renaissance clothing as well as more modern artworks from the 18th and 20th Centuries.

    1100
When the art intake has finally reached its limit there is respite in the shape of the Boboli gardens to the rear of the palace. Designed in the mid 16th C it contains typical grottoes and garden follies of the renaissance aristocracy. A chance to leave the narrow streets and tourist crowds for a while.

Your time in Florence is at an end but you may still have a chance to do a bit of that last minute shopping before bidding farewell to all the masters.

Jewelry is a most important part of fashion from the very long days. In the past it is worn as a status symbol, as well as to keep the womens safe from evils. Early in history, jewelry was a mark of status of some sort. Perhaps the only people who could wear it were of religious importance, or perhaps they were the only people who could afford it. You’ll find that even though the handmade beaded jewelry from early eras seems primitive to our eyes that it was still crafted with care. For instance, the twisted torques, close fitting necklaces that were worn by the Celts, was often a sign of both manhood and wealth. Later on, jewelry was a mark of privilege and leisure it was a show that not only could you afford to feed yourself and your loved ones, but that you could spend a lot of extra money on beautiful things. During the Victorian age in Europe, handmade beaded jewelry started taking the shapes that would be very familiar to those of us who wear jewelry today. The Victorian era had a very strong interest in death and funerary arts, though, and this was often eerily represented in socalled mourning jewelry, where people would snip hair from their departed loved ones and weave it into lockets, broaches and rings. Sometimes this jewelry would get very elaborate and it could be quite beautiful, especially when different shades of hair were used. The beginning of the twentieth century saw the beginning of fashion jewelry. Costume jewelry, far from being as cheap or as disposable as the name implies, was actually meant to be jewelry that complemented one particular outfit. Various precious metals and gems could and often did! go into the production of costume jewelry. Today, we are experiencing a real renaissance as far as jewelry goes, and whether you love fine handmade beaded jewelry or simply love adorning yourself with something new every day. take a look and see what sort of impact the right piece of jewelry can have on you! Such handmade jewelry is a great option as it is easy on the pocket and you can create stunning pieces of jewelry by exercising your mind! Wearing unique handmade jewelry gives one the satisfaction of wearing an exclusive piece! This can also make a very stylish and personalized gift as well. You must note that there are three basic techniques when you are dealing with unique handmade jewelry. The first is where you string the beads the kind of string you use will depend upon what you are planning to design. To keep a distance between the beads, one can make the use of knots or crimps. Wire is also used to make unique kind of jewelry. Here, beads are used in combination to create snazzy designs. Aside from shoes, bags are definitely the Achilles heel of every female homo sapien. Women go gaga over any kind of bag, and they even take pains in matching their bags with their shoes.

Buying a bag can be a major decision for every woman even though she may already have a dozen or more in her closet. Women can never have enough of bags.

Those who have money to spend are lucky because they can splurge their money on bags of all shapes, colors and sizes. However, for the budget conscious who are nevertheless smitten with bags, it is wise to decide which bag would fit an already existing wardrobe.

When buying bags, consider where it is going to be used so that you will not be easily swayed into buying any bag that catches your fancy. Ask yourself whether the bag will fit into your existing wardrobe. A wise dressed will always know how to mix and match her wardrobe with her bags, shoes and accessories to make her wardrobe more cost effective. Bags and shoes, when mixed and matched with different dressed, will give a new set of wardrobe to the wise dresser.

Be able to put a ceiling or a price range for your target bag so you will not be tempted into buying anything that costs more than you budget. Except of if the price is already a bargain and it can be mixed and matched to several clothing wear. This characteristic will of course make the price of the bag more cost effective in the long term.

Fashion victims would always look at magazines and follow the newest craze in bag designs and colors. Wise and elegant dressers will always go for the classic look. Going with a classic look will mean your bag will outlast the newest craze and it can be worn anywhere and anytime, for any occasion.

There are however a few rules that would have to be followed by a woman before buying a bag. A petite woman should avoid very big bags as this will tend to make her look more petite than she already is. Bags can also hide body imperfections so be sure to know which body parts you want understated before choosing a bag. If you want to avoid getting attention on your big hips then choose a shoulder bag. If you have big breasts or broad shoulders then a waste bag is for you.

Bags can come in all types like pouch bags, shoulder bags, tote bags, flap bags, evening bags and many others. It can also come in various materials like leather, satin, velvet, denim or nylon. There are as many bag designs and materials depending on the creativity of bag makers.

Bags are welcome gifts for every female. However, being able to buy the right bag for the right person can be difficult considering that each person has different tastes in bags. When doing this, it would be better to ask the person about her preferences in bags. If the person is close to you, then you would have more knowledge about her fashion style and occupation. This way, your gift would not end up at the bottom of her closet.

If you love thrift stores and garage sales, this is the column for you. Theres gold in them thar hillssewing gold! Change your perspective a little and look at the world as one big fabric store and youll find all kinds of treasures to add to your stash.

Have a closet full of old bridesmaid or prom dresses? Use them to make a quilt or a patchwork pillow. Give the bride a memento from her wedding by printing her wedding details on a piece of printable fabric. Then, use fabrics, trims, and even petticoat tulle from the bridesmaid dresses (or even the brides dress if you have scraps from alterations) to artfully dress a pillow she can keep always. Give your daughter a memento of her highschool dances with a quilt made with fabric from her dresses. Create an appliqu of a dress to put in each square using the fabric from her gowns.

Handkerchiefs, gloves, scarves, bandanas, lace linens. When I was a child, we had to have a new embroidered handkerchief and a pair of white gloves every Easter. Sew these mementos into projects to create an artistic memoir. Trims can often be pricey when new, so take them off of old garments or lingerie and reuse them. Make a dress from a vintage pillow case or from a bandana.

Used Clothing Thrift Items. Find tablecloths with embroidery or lace to transformmany vintage linens were made with handmade lace. Use old straw hats as forms to create fancy dressup bonnets. Use old jeans to make trendy handbags. Find old craft or knitting kits and use the threads and yarns to create decorative trims for your projects. Remove the back and insides of an old stuffed fabric doll or toy, and use the front or profile for a cute appliqu on jeans. Silk or lace from wedding gowns can be removed and used for other sewing projects, and the tulle from underskirts can be remade into pettiskirts. Take a blouse from your closet that you havent worn (but cant bear to give away) and use it to create a camisole or a fabric belt.

Robes Terrycloth. Cut worn parts from old robes or towels and sew them together to make a fun shower curtain (use with a liner). Vintage chenille is fun to use for stuffed toys.

Buttons, Beads Jewelry. If you have an old jacket with great buttons, consider taking the buttons off to reuse them. Find beaded sweaters or jackets, old jewelryeven shoes and disassemble to reclaim the beads and findings. Remove belts from cool belt buckles and attach a new fabric belt. Reuse hardware from old purses to make new ones. Frequently, hardware is expensive to buy new but remains undamaged on used pieces.

Scraps. Be sure to use those scraps of fabric for small projects like appliqu, scrapbooking, patchwork, hair clips, stuffed toys, and embellishments.

Imagine writing a few words, several times a day, and waiting for checks for 10, 50, two hundred dollars or more to pop through your letterbox some time soon. Thats what life is like for writers of short manuscripts, commonly called fillers, who can make this a full time writing career or a wonderfully profitable hobby.

Fillers are short written pieces, sometimes just a few words, ranging from readers letters, to verses, jokes and cartoons, recipes and household hints, overheard conversations and odd things children say, press errors, and much more.

Demand for fillers is growing fast as people spend less time reading longer features, preferring instead shorter, factpacked pieces that can be read during coffee breaks and in whatever little spare time most people have.

    How to Get Started Today

Becoming a published writer, and being paid, is as easy as reaching for pen and paper, a few envelopes and stamps, and studying magazines for current published fillers. To be a published writer really fast look for prolific users like Readers Digest, Womans Own, Writers News, most hobby and special interest publications and virtually every womans magazine.

Read other peoples published and paid for contributions not all attract payment and model your work on those editors have already chosen. Notice how some editors favour comments on past published features in the magazine, while others choose pictures of children and pets, and others recipes, poetry, jokes and so on.

Look further at magazines that most closely match your interests and writing preferences and look for editors notes on how and what to write for payment which youll usually find on the contents page or in special readers letters and filler pages.

Make a list of possible subjects to write about and begin collecting ideas for letters, jokes, hints, as required by your target magazines.

Start by listing all main points you might include in your letter or filler. List these in order of importance, from 1 for most important down to however many points there are. This is usually the order they will take in your finished piece, but not always, and some editors favour keeping the most important, sometimes second most important piece to close the feature. As always, study your target magazine first.

Write your piece, in simple style, not trying to impress and without using long and complicated words. Make sure each word deserves its place in your manuscript. Go through with a highlighter pen marking essential points and looking for any which might be deleted.

Make your lead as strong as possible. Try including something to shock readers or search for an odd and little known fact about your subject. Anything to attract and retain reader interest. This is what will compel the editor, and ultimately his readers, to finish reading your work.

Letters can be handwritten, other fillers should be typed on A4 paper, double spacing, with wide margins.

Add your name and address at the beginning of the manuscript and number all pages.

Add an introduction letter to fillers stating subject, word count and your own name or chosen pen name.

Submit your letter or fillers and wait. Dont hassle editors, youll only antagonise them and possibly turn them against you forever. Once your first manuscript has gone, start work on the next, and the next.

    Main Points for Filler Writers

Sentences and paragraphs should be short and punchy. Longer sentences and paragraphs are offputting to readers. And, of course, editors, too.

Begin by writing about subjects that interest you in magazines you read yourself.

Try to be different. Even if the subject is common, look for an unusual feature or aspect to focus on. Make it one readers can relate to and make sure nothing similar has featured recently.

Watch out for special sections in some publications, where editors invite features on a common theme, sometimes a grouse, frequently complaints, often asking readers to recount their most embarrassing moments, and so on.

Keep your eyes and ears open for anything remotely interesting to use in your letters and fillers. Listen to what other people say, particularly children. Watch out for odd signs and business names, and have your camera ready to record them.

Never copy other peoples work in your target magazines. This is breach of copyright, but there is no copyright on ideas, so what you see in one magazine can be borrowed to form the basis of a filler you write for another publication.

Study at least a dozen or so publications of the type you would like to write for. Rank these in order of preference, according to filler types, payment, subject matter. Start writing and submitting material for those highest on your list.

Think pictures. Think illustrations. Instead of sending just words to your target publication, include a photograph, maybe a cartoon or line drawing. This will increase your chance of being published. As always, careful study of your target magazine will establish editorial preferences.

Always have a notepad and pen at hand, and preferably a pocket camera and mini recorder. Its amazing where inspiration and ideas strike and how often there is nothing handy to record the incident. My best ideas come when Im in the bath, ironing, gardening, or walking the dog! Those notepads pinned to every wall and popped into my handbag have repaid their cost many times over!

Be professional in everything you write, however brief. This will bring your name to the fore when editors view your work. Being professional also opens the door to longer assignments, like articles and columns and maybe even regular commissions.

Never assume that what suits one market will also suit another. It wont. Each market must be studied as a separate entity.

Do not submit the same piece, or something very similar, to two markets at the same time. Editors hate this, especially where that other market is one of their major competitors. More importantly, you will lose all credibility as a writer.

Send your manuscript to the appropriate person or department. This will usually be indicated in the publication itself, usually on the readers letters page or in appropriate sections reserved for fillers. Otherwise, address your work to the editor whose name usually features in the early pages of your target magazine. Alternatively, look in Writers and Artists Yearbook or Writers Market for the information you require.

On the question of when to retrieve your work and submit it to another publication, most writers agree that three months is the very minimum you should wait before assuming your work has been unsuccessful. Some writers wait longer, up to a year for highpaying markets like Readers Digest.

Keep your work in circulation. Keep accurate records of everything you write, including where it is currently on offer and where it might be submitted next. Incidentally, resubmission doesnt apply purely to unsuccessful pieces published pieces can also be revised and resubmitted to new markets, but not too soon after publication and preferably not to major competitors of your main markets.

Above all, enjoy yourself, this isnt hard work after all!
